ARR is great but illayaraja is genius. And the reason I say that is if you carefully listen to raja's songs you can feel the emotion behind it. His tunes reflect the mood beautifully. The music enhances the lyrics. They compliment each other in the best manner.
ARR's songs have what i call the zing factor while illayaraja puts some soul into each of his songs. They literally live.
